6th Chakra Ajna Third Eye Chakra
Updated: Aug 14, 2023
The third eye chakra is the sixth chakra. Located on the forehead, between the eyebrows, it is the center of intuition and foresight. The function of the third eye chakra is driven by the principle of openness and imagination. The most common Sanskrit name for the Third eye chakra is “Ajna”, which means “command” and “perceiving”.
This chakra is related to the “supreme element”, which is the combination of all the elements in their pure form. The idea behind awakening the Third Eye, or brow, chakra is to see things more clearly (within and without the physical realm) and to awaken your intuition. Keep in mind, the Ajna chakra works in partnership with the crown chakra to complete the chakra “circuit.” And when the Ajna chakra is awakened and working in tandem with the crown chakra a new level of awareness can be accomplished.
Where is the Third Eye Chakra
The Third Eye Chakra transcends time. It is located in the brain, at the brow, above the base of the nose. The energy of this chakra allows us to experience clear thought as well as gifts of spiritual contemplation and self reflection.
Key characteristics of the Third Eye Chakra
Given the Ajna’s meaning, the third eye’s balance affects (and is affected by) all of the following things:
Your ability to form accurate gut feelings.
Your sense of the bigger picture in life.
Whether you meet goals related to your deepest purpose.
Balancing emotion and reason.
Whether you feel you’re stagnant or moving forward.
So, when your third eye is open, you will use both feelings and logic to make big decisions in life. You will trust in your own intuitions, and you will be comfortable knowing that you’re living your purpose. When you practice third eye chakra healing, you can notice a profound difference in your atonement with the world around you, and on your ability to be mindful.
What is Third Eye Chakra Healing?
Third eye chakra healing is the practice of cleansing, opening, and balancing the third eye chakra within our bodies. Third eye chakra healing employs a wide range of holistic healing remedies to bring alignment to the body, mind, and spirit. These remedies include practices such as meditation, mindfulness, color therapy, sound healing, yoga, self-inquiry, aromatherapy, and many others.
Candle gazing, also called Trataka in Hatha Yoga, is a powerful way to open your third eye by simply looking into the flame of a candle. Try to incorporate mindful breathing into this practice to stimulate energy flow within your body. Light a candle and place it three to four feet in front of you at eye level. Keep your vision focused on the flame in a gentle and natural way.

Third Eye Chakra Meditation
Meditation, especially with an open third eye, is always a good place to start and a critical component to balance the third eye. Meditating under natural light is most beneficial and a good place to start, either sunlight or moonlight. (During the winter you can substitute with full spectrum light.)
Concentrate on breathing. With your eyes closed “look” at the area between your eyebrows. This may take several to many attempts, especially if you’ve never attempted to open your third eye. You might try thinking of the color purple and trying to “see” it between your eyebrows (your third eye). Be patient, with enough time and work, your third eye will open.
We use colors that correlate with and stimulate the Third Eye Chakra and perform this meditation. Indigo, purple, and white are most associated colors with this chakra.
Indigo – the auric color of the Ajna. Purple – the color of Amethyst which is a go to crystal for stimulating and cleansing the Third Eye Chakra. White – is good for meditating on and putting to use with objects such as candles, clothing, flowers, and moonstone or quartz crystals used in meditation as white is the color of pure life force energy straight from the source and a healthy opened brow chakra allows in that powerful light.
Sounds for the Third Eye Chakra
The natural sounds resonating with the Ajna are the subtle and ethereal sounds of outer space, and the bell-like tones of Heaven. Also attuned to the Third Eye, are the mantra “Sham” and the vowel tone “A”, as well as the musical note A. The Solfeggio tone of 852 Hz are tuned to this Chakra. The most potent and direct way to open the Third Eye Chakra is with sacred sound. A Solfeggio frequency of 852 hz is a thoroughly transcendent meditation for the Ajna Chakra. Finally, the Solfeggio frequency of 852 Hz is believed to facilitate a return to spiritual order.
